Ready for ODM (from OEM):

  • Your OEM-customized product is being copied by competitors (you've seen identical listings from other sellers)
  • You have $20,000-$30,000 available for tooling and initial inventory
  • You have a clear vision for a product that doesn't currently exist in the market
  • You have a team or partner who can manage a 60-75 day development project

If you can't check all five boxes, you're not ready. Wait. The market will still be there in six months. The money you lose on a premature ODM project won't be.

There's no "best" manufacturing model. There's only the model that's right for where your brand is right now. And the smartest brands are the ones that know when to stay put and when to level up.
